If you are a GP user or reseller, it was hard to miss. In May, Microsoft announced the end of investment for additional feature developments in Management Reporter for GP. Numerous community and blog forums have come to refer to this as a “sun setting” of the FRx replacement, and as a result, users in the Dynamics GP community were left to wonder what the next step will be for their reporting processes. Again.
What may have been a little more subtle was that during that same time, Microsoft also announced that they had established a partnership with Jet Reports to develop and release Jet Express for Excel with Dynamics GP. With this, a lot of answers to the open questions about the Dynamics GP reporting roadmap were answered, but information was scattered.
High level summary – Microsoft selected the partnership with Jet Reports because it is both proven and future forward. Microsoft was eager to enhance reporting functionality, specifically as more and more GP users look to the cloud. Pam Misialek, Microsoft Sr. SMB Product Marketing Manager, said in their joint announcement, “The Partnership between Jet and Microsoft is designed to support the increasing number of Dynamics GP customers who are choosing to move their GP deployment to the Azure cloud.”
Jet Reports has been involved in the Dynamics community for over a decade, and is largely known as the biggest financial reporting and business analytics ISV (Independent Software Vendor) with over 137,000 users. Microsoft already partnered with Jet Reports in the development and inclusion of Jet Express for Excel with Dynamics NAV. The partnership has continued success for Microsoft by allowing them to deliver the ability for users to create basic business analysis reports, directly in Excel within minutes, out of the box with NAV.
The end result – now hundreds of thousands of Microsoft Dynamics GP users around the world can create data-rich reports within minutes as a result of the free add on of Jet Express for Excel.
Belinda Allen, a Business Intelligence Program Manager with Njevity, happened to stumble across this much needed solution a few months prior to Microsoft’s announcement.
